Survival Vortex

“The Survival Vortex” is a deeply personal exploration into the inner turmoil of Deema Meshal, a Palestinian Emergency Room doctor grappling with the haunting aftermath of the Israeli war on Gaza. As a filmmaker, my intent was not merely to document events but to delve into the emotional landscape that emerges in the wake of such conflicts.

This film is a mosaic of emotions, echoing the complexities of survival guilt, activism, and the profound struggle for identity. Through Deema’s journey, we witness the weight of responsibility thrust upon her as she unexpectedly becomes a voice for Palestine while navigating the challenges of a new life in Belgium.

The juxtaposition of personal turmoil against the backdrop of global socio-political turmoil served as a guiding light for this project. We aimed to capture the internal conflict of an individual torn between promising opportunities in a foreign land and the haunting memories of her homeland engulfed in turmoil.

At its core, ‘The Survival Vortex’ is a testament to resilience, the power of advocacy, and the relentless pursuit of justice. It aims not just to tell a story but to spark empathy, introspection, and conversations about the universal struggle for justice in the face of adversity.

As a director, my hope is that this film serves as a catalyst for understanding, fostering empathy, and igniting meaningful discussions about the human experiences intertwined with global conflicts.
